United For Peace Film Festival (UFPFF) is held in conjunction with Peace Day, September 21, designated by the United Nations. This year, the 14th UFPFF was held at Human Trust Cinema Shibuya in Tokyo and was held for the first time as a joint event with the general incorporated foundation PEACE DAY, as one of the main actions of “PEACE DAY WEEK” held from September 16 (Mon.) to September 21 (Sat.) on September 16 (Mon.) . Part 1 was the PEACE DAY Special Program. The second part was the UFPFF 2024. And over 300 people attended the festival. Thank you very much for your attendance. We are pleased to announce this year’s award winners.

What would my dead nazi grandpa say about Gaza today?
German guilt runs deep. And Germanys today being one of the biggest suppliers of weapons to Isreal makes this situation only more complicated. Since my nazi grandpa is dead and i cant talk to him about it anymore, i made this short film.

Report on PEACEDAY × UFPFF2024
In the first part was the PEACE DAY Special Program, in addition to NPO PEACE DAY Representative Director Takashi Inoue, actor/TV personality Sahel Rosa, and United For Peace Film Festival Representative Director Kenji Sekine, broadcaster Tetra Tanizaki will join the opening talk session with a special program. The opening talk session was followed by a screening of “Bouquet” (executive producer: Shunji Iwai, music: SUGIZO), Sahel Rosa’s first film as a director. After the screening, Ms. Sahel Rosa, the producer, and cast members took the stage.
The second part was the United For Peace Film Festival (UFPFF) 2024 began with the projection of video messages arriving from UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Kaoru Nemoto, Director of the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) Tokyo, in commemoration of the International Day of Peace, commonly known as Peace Day, September 21.This was followed by a screening of this year’s nine finalists’ films and a one-minute speech, in which high school and university students from Japan, Germany, and Israel took the stage, and video messages from the finalists from Japan, Taiwan, and Iran were aired.
Afterwards, we screened “Naziamini”, the winner of the PLURAL+UFPFF Award 2023 organized by our partner UN agency, as a Special Invitation film. The Peace Selection film “Palestine Islands” from the Sapporo International Short Film Festival 2024 was screened. After the screening, Mr. Toshiya Kubo, director of this film festival, took the stage and talked about the episode of film selection and the appeal of Sapporo International Short Film Festival.
The Peace Day Talk was moderated by Mr. Tsuyoshi Ito, President of asobot inc. and featured Ms. Sumiko Hatakeyama, Co-President of Peace Boat, who spoke about how we can think and act on themes such as war and peace based on their own experiences. The award ceremony was followed by an awards ceremony with Jacob Osman and other guests in the audience.
