現在、日本では毎年、3万人もの人たちが自ら命を絶っております。世界一豊かな国である日本の自殺率が、世界一高いのは何故でしょうか？世界には、戦争で命を落とす人が大勢います。教育の機会も与えられずに、飢餓や病気で死んでいく子供も大勢います。大半の日本人が平和ぼけしているのではないでしょうか？私たち日本人は、もっと世界の問題に目を向けなければいけません。『国際平和映像祭』がその一助になることを心より期待しております。

In Japan, more than 30,000 people commit suicide every year. Why does Japan have the highest suicide rate when it is among the world’s richest countries? Many people are killed in wars, and so many children die of starvation and disease, without the opportunity of education. The majority of the Japanese population seem to take peace for granted, and remain unaware. We have to open our eyes and look more closely at these global social issues. We sincerely hope that the “United For Peace Film Festival,” will contribute to this aim.

人類は、20世紀に2度に渡る大きな戦争を経験しました。その後、東西冷戦が集結し、世界に平和が訪れるかと思われましたが、統計によると1989年から2007年の間に、ひとつかふたつ以上の武力紛争を抱えている国は89ヶ国もあるそうです。

なんと嘆かわしいことでしょうか。今、この瞬間も世界のどこかで紛争が起き、悲しみや憎しみが広がっているのです。

人が、人を傷つける。誰がそんなことをしたくてするのでしょうか。
戦争がしたい、そんな人がいるでしょうか。自分の子どもを戦場に送りたい、そんなことを思う親がいるでしょうか。

この世界に、誰一人として、平和に暮らしたいと思わない人はいないはずです。みんな平和に暮らしたい、この気持は共通しているはずです。

そうであれば、行動しようではありませんか。平和を守るために、平和を実現するために。

「関係ない」などと他人事で終わらせないでください。なぜなら、この世界のどこに暮らしていても、私たちは互いに関係し合って、依存し合ってこの地球上で暮らしているのですから。

「自分には何も出来ない」などと嘆いたりしないでください。なぜなら、「あなたには何かが出来る」からです。世界を作っているのはまぎれもない、私たち一人ひとりなのです。そして、世界を変えるのも、私たち一人ひとりなのです。さあ、映像で世界を変えましょう。

Director’s message

During the 20th century, humanity experienced two major wars. Following the end of the Cold War, it seemed that world peace could finally be possible. However, according to statistics, between 1989 and 2007, 89 countries around the world were involved in at least one armed conflict.

In many places around the world, wars are still happening right now, spreading further hatred and sorrow. What a tragic and deplorable situation.
People cause harm to others. But who wants to live that way? Where are those that want to wage war, who are they? Which parent wants to send their child in to battle?
I assume that we all want to live together in peace, and that we share that common feeling.

So, let’s take action. To keep the peace, we need to realize peace.
Please don’t say, “that’s nothing to do with me”, because wherever you are in the world, we are interconnected and depend on each other.

Please don’t sigh and say, “there’s nothing I can do about it”, because you can do something. Each and every one of us is a part of this world, and to contribute to change we all need act together. Let’s change the world through the power of film.
